Arte, migrazioni e cucina

Art, migration and cuisine

The Absence of Paths (http://www.theabsenceofpaths.com/) is the title of the Tunisian Pavilion at the Biennale di Venezia (57th International Art Exhibition: http://www.labiennale.org/en/art/2017/57th-international-art-exhibition). After an absence of thirty years, Tunisia comes back to the Biennale with an installation by Lina Lazaar tackling the burning issue of migrations from an original point of view. In a human performance staged across Venice, physical travel documents called “Freesas” (as a radical alternative to visas) are issued by migrant officials, giving symbolical access to a world without borders. Integral part to the installation is an Online platform, presented as a “democratic space to showcase contributors’ thoughts and perspectives on migration. From doctors to astronauts, visual artists to chefs, political analysts to NGO workers, you will find a collection of audio, video, text, photographs, and recipes that explore the concept of migration.” Amongst over a hundred contributions, here is a culinary reflection by Ferruccio Pastore (http://www.theabsenceofpaths.com/commission/sciacsciuca-shakshouka-%D8%B4%D9%83%D8%B4%D9%88%D9%83%D9%87-%D7%A9%D7%A7%D7%A9%D7%95%D7%A7%D7%94-reflections-on-the-mutations-of-a-recipe
