Il progetto è coordinato dalla Research Unit of the Expert Council of German Foundations on Integration and Migration, in collaborazione con il Migration Policy Institute Europe, e finanziato dalla Fondazione Mercator. A fronte di flussi irregolari significativi verso l’Europa, la questione centrale è quali alternative legali esistano o potrebbero esistere per i cittadini di paesi terzi che non necessitano di protezione e che migrano per motivi di lavoro o di formazione. Attraverso la combinazione di cinque casi studio (Francia, Germania, Italia, Spagna, Svezia) e l’analisi della politica migratoria esterna all’Unione Europea, il progetto esplora le opzioni esistenti per lo sviluppo di efficaci politiche e programmi di migrazione legale. FIERI è responsabile dello studio sul caso italiano.

The project is coordinated by the Research Unit of the Expert Council of German Foundations on Integration and Migration in cooperation with the Migration Policy Institute Europe and funded by Stiftung Mercator. Given large-scale irregular migration flows to Europe, the central question is what legal alternatives do and could exist for third-country nationals who are not in need of protection and who move for education, training and or work. Through a combination of five country case studies (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden) and analysis of the European Union’s external migration policy, the project explores existing legal migration options, challenges in policy design and implementation, and reflects on the options for the development of effective legal migration policies and programmes. FIERI is in charge of the Italian case study.
