EU immigration policy: act now before it is too late

EU member states are making negotiations regarding EU labour migration rules very difficult. Despite the narrow scope of these texts, there is no appetite among governments to make any push in this field. And it is more than possible that the situation will not evolve in the medium run, given the political climate and the national and European electoral agendas. In this context, EU immigration policy will remain somewhat incapacitated and unable to address forthcoming challenges. In this Commentary, Yves Pascouau addresses the imbalances of EU immigration policy and highlights the urgent need to take action. He more particularly stresses the need to move ahead in the field of labour migration and identifies thereof some possible ways forward.
